Privacy Policy
What we collect from a parent, where the one photo goes, who else receives it, and when it is deleted.

Who we are
Get Happy Tales runs Happy Tales at gethappytales.com. This policy says what we collect, why, who else receives it, and how long we keep it.
Privacy requests go to hello@gethappytales.com. A postal address will be added on this page when it is ready. Until then, that email is the way to reach us, and not having a postal line here does not limit the rights below.
The account is the parent's
You must be 18 or older, and the parent or legal guardian if the tale is about a child.
We collect the child's name, age band, and photo from you. We do not collect them from the child. The child does not have a login. There is no chat, and nothing for a child to type into. We do not knowingly take information directly from a child. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.
What we collect
- The child's first name, the pronoun you pick, and an age band: 0–2, 3–5, or 6–8.
- A few interests, a few themes, and a short note, if you type them.
- Who else belongs in the story, and a first name if you give one for a sibling or the dog.
- One photo of the child. If the dog is in the story, one photo of the dog, and only if you choose to add it.
- Your email.
- The plan you chose, what you paid, and the brand and last four digits of the card. We never see or store the full card number. Stripe does.
- The cookie in the cookie policy, so an unfinished tale is still there when you come back.
- The message, if you write to us.
We do not ask for a home address, a phone number, a school, or a photo of another adult.
Why we use it
We use this to draw and deliver the tales, to take payment and issue a refund, to answer you, and to keep the service safe.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for advertising, in the sense those words have under US state privacy laws. We do not use the photo to train a model of our own. If that ever changed, we would say so on this page first, and we would give you a way to say no before it happened.
The photo
One photo. We draw the child from it. We keep it only while the tales are active. Active includes a pause of up to three months. After you cancel, we delete the photo within 30 days. Tales already delivered stay. The original photo does not.
If you start a tale and never pay, we delete that photo within 7 days. That job runs every night.
The photo is stored in a private bucket. It is not on a public page. A person who works on Happy Tales opens a photo only to fix a tale you asked us to fix, to answer a privacy request, or to look into a report that a photo should not be there. We do not browse photos for any other reason.
Who else receives it
Three services. Each gets only what it needs to do its job.

We do not give the photo to advertisers, data brokers, or other families.
How long we keep the rest

Your rights
Email us, from the address on the account, and you can ask us to:
- send you a copy of what we hold,
- correct it,
- delete it,
- or stop a use of it that the law lets you stop.
We answer within 30 days. Deleting the photo means we cannot draw a new tale that looks like them. Tales already delivered can stay, unless you ask us to delete those too. If you ask for that, we delete them.
If the law where you live gives you more, including a right to complain to a privacy regulator, that right still stands. The request still starts with the same email.
Security
The files sit in a private store. The cookie that remembers a start cannot be read by scripts on the page. No way of storing a photo is perfect. If a breach reaches the photo or your email, we will tell you, and where the law requires it we will tell the authority as well.
Changes
We post the new version on this page, with a date and a version number. If we send the photo to a different provider, or we use it for a new purpose, we email you first.
